Brokenness and Evanglism

Sharing your faith is one of the key identifiers of someone who is close to Christ. Everyone wants to share their faith but something holds us back. The thing that holds most people back is what they see staring at them in the morning, as they are getting ready. When believers look in the mirror, often all they see are the reasons why they can’t share their faith. The problem is we don’t see ourselves the way that God does. God has called us all to share our faith but what that means is that we have to say to someone, “you need to be like me and follow Christ.” Then when we think about whom we are the idea of someone being like us, with all of our issues, may seem crazy. However, if we saw ourselves the way that God does it would change our perspective.

I believe that God see us much like a mother sees her child. In the eyes of a mother, her baby can do no wrong. We continue to see terrible tragedies done by evil people and yet when one of the perpetrators mothers are interviewed by media often the response is that my son/daughter could not have done such a terrible act.  When God sees us he does not see a person who is heavily burdened, and seeming carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. He simply sees his child who has been washed clean by the blood of Jesus because of the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for us all. The person we think we are is insufficient, especially when it comes to the responsibility of doing evangelism is the right person because they are insufficient.

A quick look at the life of David provides us with a plethora of evidence that God uses broken people to do His work here on earth. David committed adultery, murder, rape, deception, death of son, and this was God’s chosen man (Acts 13:22  22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’) What we see as a reason we are not qualified to share our faith is exactly why God wants to use us. If we are honest to God about our brokenness and come to the realization that this life we live has everything to do with the greatness of God and nothing to do about ourselves. At that point, God can use us in some humbling ways.

Only when we are broken can we begin to be used by God. As he allows us to discover personal revival then we will find that we are being filled more and more with the joy of salvation. (Psalm 51:12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.) The more joyful we are the more opportunities we will have to share our faith. Don’t live your life defeated because of past sins. Break free from your sins, seek on the person revival that can be found in brokenness, and then we can share our faith the joy of our salvation. Allow your brokenness to be a platform for God to do his best work!
